Ecclesiastes 8:15 and a Wild Rose, Boundary Waters, Minnesota.
“So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 8:15 (NIV)
Life’s Little Roses
The book of Ecclesiastes comments on the emptiness of chasing the perceived greater things of the world. The context of this particular passage is that life treats people unequally (See vs. 15), and it would be best for us to enjoy the journey that we are on. In one sense, this verse calls us all to “wake up and smell the roses.”
God places many little roses in our life. Often we overlook them seeking more. I know I do that. I too often overlook the good things in my life when I’m wanting “something more.” But how much better is it to enjoy what God gives in the moment?
God gives us many good things and a lot of those good things are life’s little roses. Enjoy those little roses and don’t lose those moments without taking contentment in them. Once they’re gone, they are gone. Make the most of them.
