If you know somebody who likes to connect with God in nature, then this book is for them. Or perhaps you may know somebody who feels distracted and disconnected from God by the stresses of life. Praise God! I have great and exciting news! My devotional book Drawing Near: Meeting God in His Creation is done! The official release date is June 6, 2023, but you can pre-order it wherever you buy books. You can get yours early by ordering it directly from me starting in February.

The book is done, but the release date is in June because publishers like to make sure all the booksellers have copies to go on sale at the same time. That takes good logistics and planning.

It will be available in both paperback and as an e-book. Below are a couple of links to where you can buy it, but you can buy it most anywhere you like to buy your books (and you also can get it directly from me). If you have a favorite bookstore, let them know about it so they can order copies from their wholesaler.

Praise God! I have some great news! The interior design of my devotional book Drawing Near: Connecting with God in His Creation is done. You can see a sample of what the interior will look like in the two photos below.

Each daily devotion will open with a two-page spread that will include the title for the devotion, and one of my nature photographs to illustrate it.

The two-page spread that follows will contain the scripture, the devotion, a prayer and note lines for journaling.

Thanks for your continued prayers. The devotional is now in its final design stage. The designers are designing the back cover. Please pray that this stage goes well.

After that, the book is off to the printer. I would appreciate your continued prayers throughout this process.

I have great news! Praise God! Last week I sent the publisher of my devotional book Drawing Near: Connecting with God in His Creation, the final edited copy of the manuscript. That is very exciting news. God is good!!! Now the designers are ready to start the next phase of the book project.

This week the design team will begin to work on the interior design. In this phase of the process they well layout each page with the photos and the text, and pick the fonts and style of the interior. It’s a very important phase.

Pray for this process, that it will go well and that there will be no delays. Any delays that occur during this process could be costly. Neither the publisher nor I want to see that happen.

Also, the quicker the interior design goes the sooner the book will be done. The actual release date of the book will be May/June of 2023 (I know, this is all a long process.) The good news is, you can get your copy as soon as I get mine! And I may get mine as early as December, but most likely I’ll receive mine in the first part of January.

At beginning of January you will have the opportunity to order the book directly from me at a significantly discounted price! But for now your prayers are needed.

  1. Pray for the design process, that it will go smoothly and there won’t be any additional cost.
  2. Pray that the design will be beautiful and eye-catching!
  3. Pray that we sell over 100,000 copies of the book. That’s a huge goal, but not huge for God!
  4. Pray that people draw near to God by reading this devotional and learn to connect with Him in His creation. That is my deep desire for the book.

The cover design is done! Now that is done, the manuscript is going through it’s final edit stage. When the edits are done the designers will begin designing the interior. Please continue to PRAY for this process and I get all the DETAIL work I need to get done for the publisher. Also, several people are considering writing endorsements or have already begun the process of writing endorsements. PRAY I get those endorsements in soon and they don’t hold up the printing process.

Last week I had a conversation with three members of the publishing company’s staff. We discussed all sorts of details about my upcoming book Drawing Near: Meeting God in His Creation. And yes! That is now the official title and subtitle!

We also discussed the publishing timeline. The timeline begins with the cover design. The cover design will be out in two weeks! I can’t wait to see it. It’ll be exciting. Following that will be the interior design. Hopefully the book will be printed mid-December. The actual release date of the book will be in 2023, but I will be able to make copies available to my readers as soon as they’re printed. Keep watch here for more details!

Please pray for the cover design and also that I get the manuscript completely ready for printing in the next two weeks. There’s still a lot of work to be done. Most of this work involves formatting issues to make the manuscript ready for print. The majority of the manuscript has been professionally edited, but some portions still need editing. Pray I get the needed changes done and my editor gets it back to me quickly.

Last week I had a exciting conversation with Morgan James Publishers, who will be publishing my book Drawing Near. The conversation went well and we are closing in on a timeline for the book’s release date. After our conversation, I sent them the completed and edited manuscript. They will let me know if they want any changes.

This week I’ll be finalizing the photos that will appear in the devotional. Once I do that I’ll be sending them off to the publisher.

One thing to note: I will have printed copies about 4 to 6 months before they are available in bookstores. I will be able to make those copies available to you through my website.

It’s official! Praise God! I signed a publishing agreement with a Morgan James publishing today. I never thought I would be working with an actual book publisher with my devotional. I thought I would be self-publishing it as an independent author. I praise God this publisher wants to work with me and they will get the book into bookstores around the country. That I would never have been able to do by myself. The book will reach people beyond my reach. That’s God at work!

I now I asked for your prayers as the publisher and I begin to work together in the design and development of the book. Your prayers are greatly appreciated!

On Thursday, June 2, I had a good conversation with the likely publisher of my devotional book. We just have a few more things that need to be taken care of before we sign a publishing agreement. Pray that everything falls in the place and God guides both the publishing company and me in making the best decisions.

On Thursday, June 2 I am scheduled to speak with my book publisher. We are going to discuss items in the publishing agreement and discuss a plan of action. Pray for a phone call. Also, pray I could find a good attorney or someone else who is familiar with publication agreements who can go over the legal information with me. Thank you!

On Friday, April 29,  I talked with a publisher about my book. That conversation went well. They will be making a decision on whether to extend me an offer. If they extend me an offer, my wife and I will talk it over and pray to see if we want to accept the offer. We appreciate your prayers in all this!

I do have some exciting news! As my previous update stated (see it below), I had planned to go with IngramSpark as the publisher of my book.

IngramSpark is for people who self-published their book. They make the process easier. With IS, I would do everything by myself using their website, input and tools to create the book. After the book is completed, they would help me distribute it and make it available on demand.

Earlier this month a friend of mine suggested I get together with a friend of his who is a book publisher. So my friend connected us through email and on Friday, April 29 I will be meeting with the publisher.

If we decide to work together, the publisher would take over of lot of the design and production work and help me create a marketing plan. Pray that God guides our time and the correct decisions are made.

I have decided to use IngramSpark publishers to publish my book. IngramSpark comes recommended to me by some fellow authors. IngramSpark allows independent authors to inexpensively produce both print and e-books of high-quality for distribution through a variety of websites and stores.

Now that I have a publisher, I’m excited to get some other things moving. I’m now working on a design. Please pray for me as I go through this process. Since I don’t have a big budget, I am designing the book myself with help from Ingram Spark’s online design tools and other websites’ design tools. Pray for me as I go.
