Christmas and the Righteous Branch of David
Christmas Hymn Series: Jeremiah 23:5 and a new Oak Branch, Bellevue Nebraska
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a Righteous Branch, and He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land.” Jeremiah 23:5
Christ, the Righteous Branch
I treasure the old Christmas Hymns. I think it’s sad that many churches don’t play them during the Christmas season.
The old classic Christmas carols beautifully reference Scripture and doctrine. The hymn “O’ Come, O’Come Emmanuel” references the above verse and Isaiah 11:1-2 when it sings that the Christ will come from line of David, “the branch from Jesse’s tree.”
From now until Christmas, I’ll post a verse or two from a Christmas Hymn with each photo and Bible verse. I’ll also post a link to the Hymn.
Take a moment to read a few verses of “O’ Come, O’ Come Emanuel” below.
O come, the branch of Jesse’s tree
Free them from Satan’s tyranny;
They trust you mighty power to save,
And give them victory over the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
shall come to thee, O Israel.
Please Note: This hymn is very old and there are many wordings. The lyrics you know my slightly vary from this one.
