Devoted to Fellowship
Acts 2:42 and Feeding Shore Birds at Sunset, Merritt Island National Wild Refuge, Florida.
“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42
The Fellowship of Believers
Many species of God’s creation gather together. Why?
1) Protection: Animals find safety in numbers.
2) Substance: Animals often gather together at a food source, like these shore birds in the photograph.
3) To follow a wise and experienced leader.
4) To reproduce.
The early believers often gather together. Unfortunately, 30% of churchgoers in 2019 had not returned to church by summer of 2022. Sad. Believers need to attend church for the same reasons animals come together.
1) Protection: People find strength in community. A lone believer is destined to fail and to fall into sin and/or depression.
2) Substance: We gather together and learn God’s word together and sharpening each other as iron sharpens iron.
3) To follow a leader: We follow Jesus, and Jesus calls leaders to lead among us.
4) To reproduce. We grow when we are together, and we need to work together to grow the church telling others about Christ.
