Mark 4:39 and Lake Polly, The Boundary Waters, Minnesota
“And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.” Mark 4:39
Perfectly Calm Through Christ
In Mark 4 Jesus calms the storm and the Sea of Galilee demonstrating He has power over nature. As Great as a miracle that may seem, it may even be a greater miracle to calm the storms in us. As verses 40 and 41 point out, When Jesus calmed the wind and waves, He did not calm the storm in His own disciples. After they witnessed this great power in Him verse 41 says, “They became very much afraid.”
Sometimes the storms around us rage. When that happens our insides may rage all the more. But as our loving God, Jesus is truly powerful enough to calm the storms inside us as they rage around us. And when He calms us, just as calm water reflects an image in it, our calmness reflects the image of Christ to others.
