Knowing Our Identity
1 John 3:1-2a and a Male American Goldfinch, Eastern Nebraska.
“Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Beloved, we are now children of God…” 1 John 3:1-2a
Our identity in Christ
When bird watchers see this bird they immediately identify it as a male American goldfinch. That’s what it is. And the goldfinch acts according to its identity.
When finding a meal, it finds seeds like a finch and not worms like robin. When seeking a mate, it seeks a female goldfinch and not a sparrow. And when singing its song, it sings like a goldfinch and not like a cardinal. It lives by its identity.
As Christians we thrive when we know our identity is in Christ. The Bible says we are children of the living God of the Universe bought with the blood of Jesus Christ. When we know and live according to our identity we live and thrive under the power of God.
