A Star’s Call to Worship Him: The Newborn King
Matthew 2:2 and A Star filled Sky and “It came Upon the Midnight Clear”
“Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:2
A Journey to Worship Him
The clear desert sky made it easy for the wisemen to see Christ’s star. We don’t know when they first saw it, how long their journey took, when they arrived, nor how many came. The Bible just tells us that they came and they came from the east, most likely Babylon.
Thinking that King Herod knew of the new king’s birth, they went to Him and told him of their quest. They told Herod that they came not just to visit the new born king and give Him gifts, but to worship Him.
They were truly wisemen, they knew the babe they came to see was not merely a child king, but incarnate deity. God calls all people to worship Him.
The first verse of “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear”
“It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold:
“Peace on the earth, goodwill to men,
From heaven’s all-gracious King.”
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.”
