Surely the Lord is in this Place
Guest Post by Kevin Shilts Genesis 28:16 and Lower Soda Falls, Cascadia State Park, Oregon
“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.’ And he was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!'” Genesis 28:16
The Lord is in this Place
A couple of years ago I was shooting fall foliage at a waterfall I had enjoyed many times before, but never quite like this time. This time the gold of the Big Leaf Maple was at its peak, and in the soft late afternoon light, made the place feel sacred. It was a cathedral carved out by the hands of God Himself.
God Himself decorated it with gold, silver and stone, just like the temples of ancient times. The gold was the Maple leaves, the silver was the waterfall, the stone was the walls of the cliff, and the large boulder in the foreground was the altar. Surely the Lord is in this place, and heaven is near. Read all of Genesis 28
