What Gives Us Reason for the Season
Philippians 2:7-8, Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus and a Sculpture of Christ on the Cross, Holy Family Shrine, Eastern Nebraska.
“But Jesus emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:7-8
Reason for the Season.
As we celebrate this Christmas season let’s remember the reason for the season. Jesus emptied Himself and took on the form of a baby, lived a sinless life and eventually died on a cross for our salvation. Without Christ’s birth, death and resurrection Christmas has little value. If we celebrate Christmas without celebrating Christ we miss its true meaning.
As the Hymn “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” proclaims, Jesus was born to die and rise again to set us free.
“Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.”
