Forty Years of Faithfulness in the Wilderness
Deuteronomy 29:5 and My old Hiking Boots, San Isabel National Forest, Colorado.
“Yet the LORD says, ‘During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet.'” Deuteronomy 29:5
Forty Years of Faithfulness
As I hiked down Mount Elbert in Colorado the sole of one of my hiking boots began to tear apart. Within the next quarter mile the sole on the second began to tear away. “Oh Ugh!” I still had a long way to go to the trailhead!
Thankfully, another hiker had tape in her first aid kit. We used the tape to wrap the soles to the boots and they made it down.
For 10 years I wore those boots on countless trails before they fell apart. That’s a long time for a pair of boots, but it doesn’t compare to the forty years the ancient Hebrews spent in the wilderness. In that time God did not let their clothes nor their footgear wear out.
Through their time in the desert, God took care of them even though they complained a lot. We serve a good God who continues to take care of us, even when we complain. Let’s find it in our hearts to always worship Him and to be grateful for what He has given us.
Read all of Deuteronomy 29.
