Footprints in God’s Path
Psalm 17:4-5 Footprints in Sand, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado.
“Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip. I have called upon You and You will hear me.” Psalm 17:4-6a (NKJV)
Footprints that Follow God
In Psalm 17, the Psalmist David declares that he has followed in God’s ways and in not in the ways of wicked men. In verse 4, David gives God credit for this, and in verse 5 he asks for God to uphold his footsteps that he may continue to walk in God’s ways.
Then in verse 6, David makes a statement of faith, “I have called upon You and You will hear me.” Throughout the rest of the psalm, David proclaims his trust and confidence in God.
David’s prayer in Psalm 17 gives an example to us all. We are called to walk in God’s footsteps, to reach out to Him to help us do that and to place our confidence in Him and Who He is.
