The Colors of Christmas
1 Peter 1:18-19 with a Poinsettia and Christmas tree.
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot.” 1 Peter 1:18-19
The Significance of the Colors of Christmas
The colors red and green make up the primary colors of Christmas. Both colors carry a significant meaning. The color red represents the blood of Christ and the color green represents life.
1 Peter 1 tells us that we were bought to a new life with the imperishable precious blood of Christ. It is by the blood of the Christmas Child––who grew up, then suffered and died on the cross––that we are saved. The song “The First Noel” echoes this in its final verse.
“Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord,
That hath made heaven
And earth of naught
And with His blood
Mankind hath bought.
Noel Noel Noel Noel!
Born is the King of Israel!”
