The Lion of Judah has Triumphed

“Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has triumphed to open the scroll and its seven seals.’” Revelation 5:5

Jesus, Lion of Judah

The imagery of a lion brings to mind many noble characteristics. In lions we see the qualities of power, strength and majesty. The look of this great beast with its regal mane conjures up images of royalty. No doubt, the lion is an animal that demands respect.

The appearance of this animal makes it easy to understand why the Bible calls Jesus the Lion of Judah. He rules as our great and glorious Lord and reigns over all. As the verse proclaims, He alone is worthy to accomplish God’s plans.

Goodness of God

Goodness of God

In one of today’s modern worship songs, the writers of the song speak of the goodness of God. They write of how God has been faithful and good throughout their lives. They proclaim the wonder and greatness of the goodness of God.

Throughout our life God gives us many good things. Some of those things are great and memorable, and some of them are simple like the beauty of a butterfly on a flower. And some, like the ability to love and be loved, are priceless.

Today, as you go about your day, think about how God has been good to you throughout your life and be grateful for the goodness of God.

Planted and Water to Grow

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:7-8

Planted and Water by Believers, but God Brings Growth

In 1 Corinthians 3 the Apostle Paul tells us that people who serve the Lord are simply God’s servants being used by Him. People don’t cause growth in the lives of others. God does.

The work each of us does for God is important, like planting a seed and watering it. Plants don’t grow unless these things happen, but it’s not who plants the seed nor who waters it that makes it grow. God makes it grow. 

The same is true with people. We are planted and watered by people in our lives, but only God brings growth to our lives. God calls us to align ourselves with Him and not with a teacher nor a church.

Just a Morning Fog

“Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” James 4:14

Life is a Morning Fog

When I study the Bible I prefer the richer translation, but sometimes I like how the common language translations word a phrase. The New Living Translations records James 4:14 as, “How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.”

This morning fog in Glacier National Park didn’t linger long. With the sunrise it gave way to a gorgeous day.

The Scripture says, one’s life is “like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” Our finite lives don’t last long. In light of eternity the good and bad here will shortly disappear. The Bible calls us to trust our everlasting God and not ourselves with our time here.

“How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who announces peace and brings good news of happiness, who announces salvation, and says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” Isaiah 52:7

God Reigns

I love how this verse uses the beautiful imagery of mountains to announce that the God of the Bible reigns. The verse proclaims He will bring peace and redemption to His people.

Whatever is going on your life today, good or bad, remember, the good news the Bible proclaims is, “Your God Reigns!”
