Waiting for Morning
Guest Post by Hannah Horning: Psalm 130:5–6, Oak Trees, and the Rising Sun Burning off Mist, Nonington, Kent, in England.
“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning, More than those who watch for the morning.” Psalm 130:5–6 (NRSV)
Spiritually Waiting
Much of our life seems to be about waiting: waiting for a long school or work day to be over, waiting for the perfect partner to come along, or waiting for a child to be born. Then there’s what I call “spiritual waiting.” Spiritual waiting can turn into more of an impatient longing for God’s direction in our lives, or for healing and revival, or to be united with Christ in our heavenly home.
When the shadowy mists of life threaten to envelop us in the waiting and our souls feel stuck in endless night, we can be assured of this: the Lord sees our patient (and often impatient) longing for the morning. In just a little while, the Sun of Righteousness will arise, burn off the mist, and set us completely free with His fiery rays of love!
