A Painful Crown of Thorns
John 19:2-3 and a Crown of Thorns
“The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, set it on His head, and dressed Him in a purple robe. And they went up to Him again and again, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and slapping Him in the face.” John 19:2-3
A Painful Crown of Thorns and So Much More
Take a look at this crown made out of thorns, and imagine it being forced on top of your head. And then imagine that being just one small step of all the pain that you’re going to feel and the worst is yet to come. That’s what Jesus did for us.
Not only did Jesus endure physical pain, but He also endured mental pain as the soldiers and others mocked Him, and the emotional pain of desertion. On top of all that, He took upon Himself a great spiritual pain when He carried our sins and brought them to the cross. And He did it all out of love.
The best response to Jesus’s love we can have is to surrender to Him, and live our lives in humble and grateful service to Him.
