Psalm 55:6-7 and a Mourning Dove, Eastern Nebraska.
“I said, ‘Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. Behold, I would wander far away, I would lodge in the wilderness.’” Psalm 55: 6-7
Find Rest on Wings like a Dove
The joy of finding rest so often alludes us. In Psalm 55 the Psalmist David longed for rest while being pursued by His enemies. He wrote in verse 4 that his heart was “in anguish within me.” He desired to get away to the wilderness on “wings like a dove!”
I feel David’s pain. Today, it may not be my enemies that keeps me from rest, but life itself.
Life brings so much at us that it makes it hard for us to get away and rest, but when we do it’s wonderful. Even in the winter, spending time outside makes for a refreshing blessing.
