Jesus, the Royal Shoot of Jesse

Isaiah 11:1-2 and Spring Oak Leaves, Sarpy County, Nebraska.Young spring oak leaves against a blue sky, Sarpy County, Nebraska. Isaiah 11:1-2, Shoot of Jesse

“A shoot will spring up from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.” Isaiah 11:1-2

The Shoot of Jesse

The Old Testament writers wrote about Jesus. Just like the New Testament, the Old Testament proclaims Jesus and our need for Him. The story of Jesus runs through the entire Bible.

Jesse in the Old Testament was King David‘s father. The Bible tells us Jesus descended from David’s royal line to redeem us as our Messiah and King.

Isaiah 11 and the prophets tell us that Jesus would be no ordinary king. They proclaim that the glory and power of God would dwell in Him and He would redeem the world. They tell us He will come again to usher in His everlasting kingdom and transform the world forever.
