Finding God in a Parched Land

Psalm 143:5-6 and Palo Duro Canyon, Texas. The desert red rock, sand dunes and catus of Palo Duro Canyon, Texas. Bible Verse of the Day: Psalm 143:5-6 and a Parched Land

“I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your doings; I muse on the work of Your hands. I stretch out my hands to You; my soul longs for You, as a parched land.” Psalm 143:5-6

Longing in a Parched Land

King David wrote Psalm 143 as he fled from one of his enemies. (Perhaps his enemy here is his son Absalom. David indicates in the verse 2 that his current trouble is a result of his own sin and Absalom’s rebellion was a result of several sins of David).

The psalm reveals David’s deep longing for God’s deliverance and presence. In verse 4 he says, “My spirit is overwhelmed within me”. He longs for God like a parched land longs for water.

Trouble overwhelms all of us from time to time. But just like David we can run to God and find strength in His presence. And just like David we can run to God even when our trouble is the result of our own sin. God does not run from those who humbly run to Him. Read all of Psalm 143, a prayer for deliverance and guidance.
