The Storm of God’s Wrath

In the Bible clouds and storms are often used as imagery for God’s judgment. Surely their dark and foreboding look can remind us of a terrible and unseen great force that we are powerless against.

The book of Nahum is a prophecy about the destruction of the city of Nineveh for its sins. Two hundred years early the city repented when Jonah preached to them, but sadly they forgot God’s goodness. This time they did not repent and the city fell. Its ruins were lost to history for about 2,500 years until Austen Henry Layard excavated them in 1847.

God is slow to anger, but when He is angry only repentance can stop the great wrath of His judgment. May we be humble and repent before Him.
