Job 37:2-4 and Thunderhead Cloud, Badlands National Park, South Dakota.
“Listen closely to the thunder of His voice, and the rumbling that goes out from His mouth. Under the whole heaven He lets it loose, and His lightning to the ends of the earth. After it, a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, and He does not restrain the lightnings when His voice is heard.” Job 37:2-4.
God in the Voice of Thunder
The ancient Scandinavian people believed in something transcendent and spiritual about thunder. To put hands and feet to this idea they created Thor, the God of Thunder.
The Bible confirms that thunder points to something transcendent, but not some mythological god. The Bible says thunder reveals the unseen power of the One True God. The Christian God holds so much more power than a simple god of thunder. The Lord alone controls thunder, lightning and all the universe which He created.
I like to think of thunder as the sound of God declaring He is the unseen power who is in control.
