“Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said, ‘O Lord, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, O Lord, and see; and listen…’” 2 Kings 19:15-16
All Kingdoms and Kings are Subject to God
King Hezekiah of the ancient Jewish Kingdom of Judah humblied prayed these words when Judah was about to be attacked by the armies of the Assyrian King Sennacherib. Hezekiah knew victory would not come by the hand of his own armies, but by the hand of God.
As a result of Hezekiah’s prayer the the Lord struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers and delivered Judah from Sennacherib. Hezekiah knew of the awesome power of God and that all the kings and kingdoms of this world are subject to God’s rule. Hezekiah trusted in the Lord!
