“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment such as braided hair or gold jewelry or fine clothes, but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3-4

Modesty: A Light to the World

Nature does not strive to make itself more beautiful. Its beauty comes from within and shines as a light pointing towards its Creator. Likewise, 1 Peter 3:3-4 tells us that a person’s greatest beauty comes from the inside. Both this verse and 1 Timothy 2:9 make it clear that clothing is to be modest. In Matthew 5:28 Jesus warns men not to look at women with lust, but it stands equally as wrong for a woman to wear clothing that stirs up lust.

To practice modesty is not easy. Much of today’s fashion is designed to bring about  lustful desires. In all things, include the clothing we wear, Christians must ask the question, “Am I being like the world or a light to the world shinning for my Creator?”

Here is a great meme on modesty.
