Mountains: Metaphors of God

Psalm 3 verse 4 ends with the word “Selah”, which means to pause and ponder. The psalms calls us to pause and think about the wonders of God.

Many times, throughout it’s pages, the Bible uses the imagery of mountains to say something about the wonders of God. When we look at them, it is easy to understand why.

Mountains give the abstract ideas of majesty and power something tangible we can visualize.  So much about them is breathtaking and awe inspiring. There is no better visual metaphor to tell of something great than the imagery of a mountain. Psalm 3 uses a mountain to describe the greatness of the dwelling place of God, the One who rescues us. Selah!

King David wrote Psalm 3 while being chased by his rebellious son Absalom, who wanted to overthrow him.
