Job 41:1-2 and an Alligator, Central Florida.
“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord? Can you put a rope in his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook?”Job 41:1-2
God Made and controls Leviathan
We don’t know what animal God calls “Leviathan” in the Book of Job. It may have been some sort of crocodilian like this alligator or perhaps some extinct animal like a plesiosaurus.
The verses that follow 41:2 get very detailed in describing this powerful and very real animal. Whatever it was, God called it “Leviathan” as a proper name. Perhaps, it was nothing but a pet to him? Despite its might, God reminded Job that He made and controlled the powerful beast.
With infinite wisdom and strength God knows all and holds all in His hands. Like Job, we may find God’s ways hard to understand, but God, the maker of this great beast, always knows what He is doing.
