Ice, Snow, the Book of Job and God and His Greatness

Job 38:29-30 and Snow Covered Hills and Lake, Fontenelle Forest, Nebraska. A frozen lake below hill covered with snow and hoarfrost covered trees, Fontenelle Forest, Nebraska. Bible Verse of the Day: Job 38:29-30 God and His greatness

“From whose womb has come the ice? And the frost of heaven, who has given it birth? Water becomes hard like stone and the surface of the deep is imprisoned.” Job 38:29-30

Earthly Complaints in Light of His Greatness

I love Job 38 and the following chapters. In them God finally confronts Job after Job’s many complaints. I see these chapters not only as God confronting Job, but as God confronting me. In reading them I realize that I have no business complaining to God! Who am I to do so!

I don’t delight in God confronting me nor Job, but I do treasure chapters 38-42 as a brilliant look at God’s power and wonder. The chapters are the words of the Lord to Job. In them He masterfully uses poetic language to declare His greatness.

After God speaks, Job realizes how minuscule He is before God. He answers God with, “But now my eye sees You; therefore I retract, and I repent in dust and ashes.”

Praise our God. He is greater than anything we can imagine!
