Blog: Enjoy God’s Creation

My wife sits on a log in Olympic National Park. She loves to enjoy God’s creation

Most people would consider it odd if all I did to get to know my wife was to watch her. If I just simply followed her around and studied her habits. What if I just admired all the things God did in her life? Would I really enjoy her and know her, as God wants me to know her?

To Truly Know Someone

Or what if we pursued our best friends in the same way? What if we just studied them and the things God did with their lives? Would we really appreciate who they are and for what purpose God created them? Of course not!

To really get to know someone and to fully enjoy who he or she is, we have to spend quality time with that person. Doing anything less would not allow us to fully appreciate the person God made. Yet, this is how many evangelicals view creation.

Today’s creation ministries, of which there are many, do an excellent job of showing how a true study of science points to God as Creator. I, for one, greatly appreciate what they do. They pour on the scientific evidence in areas such as biology, geology, physics and astronomy. It’s all very good, but they miss something. They fail to mention we need to enjoy God’s creation.

Get Outside to Enjoy God’s Creation

Genesis tells us that God took pleasure in what He created and we ought to as well. The world God designed was meant to be enjoyed, to please our eyes and to touch our hearts. Yes, we live in a fallen world, but there is still plenty to enjoy and to marvel at. God gave us an incredible creation. When we fail to enjoy and take pleasure in its beauty, majesty and mystery we miss out on another way to experience and know God.

I encourage you to get outdoors and enjoy God’s creation. Find your place outside and meet God there. If you can, seek Him in the solitude and silence of His creation. Let your heart worship Him for the greatness and goodness that you see and He will make Himself more real to you.
